I'd assume its because of:

"GR 5.1 The swimwear (swimsuit, cap and goggles) of all competitors shall be in good moral taste and suitable for the individual sports disciplines and not to carry any symbol which may be considered offensive."

and

"GR 5.4 The referee of a competition has the authority to exclude any competitor whose swimwear or body symbols do not comply with this Rule."

Why couldn't she compete? The Olympian's used to compete in the nude and she still had most of her suit.

Also, it's not as simple as just hopping to another carrier. Your iphone won't work with T-mob's 3G because they use a different frequency. You can make calls, sure, but if that's all you wanted, you wouldn't have got an iPhone....

The tip about removing the version number is security through obscurity, and won't do anything against those running scripts to hack/vandalize WordPress based site, since they'll just have the script try to hack it anyways. This issue has been discussed on one (or two [or more?]) WordPress mailing lists, if I recall correctly, and the consensus has always been that it serves no real security purpose to not say what version you're running.

Also, it appears that since version 2.5, WordPress automatically inserts the version when wp_head() is called. I wouldn't recommend removing the call to wp_head, as some plugins may depend on it.

IRC Freak - interesting take on that story specifically, and trying to make it part of a bigger trend.

1) I don't consider louisgray.com a social media blog. It's a Silicon Valley blog that covers tech, and occasionally bumps into social media. True, much of the visibility came from coverage of FriendFeed, Social Median, Twitter and other apps of that type, but I wouldn't niche it. I'm just as likely to discuss Apple, Google, Microsoft, etc. as interesting news arrives.

2) The Obama/Spears story was amusing/interesting and in theory, depending on who you ask, newsworthy. What made it newsworthy were a few things, including timeliness, visibility of those involved, and the interest from many people in terms of statistics. If numbers are out there, people will measure them and try to find trends.

I posted that because it was fun, light content on a Saturday. And nobody else covered it. The question is, if a bigger blog had written about it first, would others have covered it in their wake? You'll note we didn't write about the @Mentions thing from Twitter or the other small nuances that have come up. It doesn't exactly seem necessary to do that when everyone under the sun is watching for pixel changes.

Would be a smart idea, providing updates to the theme would also be a benefit to the people who use it, as Chris doesn't seem to be updating it any more. Sadly all of that is beyond my ability and I got so annoyed with the theme I stopped using it
